ADU & I

Based on the proposition that an ADU can be an accessible, affordable, and adaptable dwelling unit as well as an accessory one. For “Yes to ADU,” a competition sponsored in 2018 by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Skanovation!

The Skane region of Sweden launched a competition in 2016 in order to re:envision its future. TMA proposed using Design Thinking to brainstorm ideas and strategies to transform the region into an economic powerhouse.

The New Organism

For the 2013 One Prize competition, which focused on creating resilient cities to adapt to climate change, TMA imagined a future New York where lichen-algae hybrids are able to protect the city in the event of storm surge.

WDC

For the 2008 White House Redux competition, entrants were asked to redesign the home of the US president to reflect the current political environment. TMA proposed a public/private partnership between the President, Starwood Hotels, and Halliburton.

For the 1999 TKTS competition seeking to replace the discount ticket booths at Times Square, Beep’Inc. proposed a mirrored building on the outside with an explosion of color inside.

Kyo-Vision!

In 1997, the prefecture of Kyoto reached out to designers worldwide for a vision of the city in the 21st century. KyoVision! offered a proposal built upon the city’s traditional architecture but turned inside out.

This is Real Life

An open call for works exploring the concept of site-specificity inspired a memory of a place that never existed. Published in Siteworks: the UCLA Architecture Journal in 1992.

Urban Renewal

In 1991, for its 10th anniversary issue, Metropolis published solutions for how to address intractable urban problems. The Office of Suburban Architecture proposal was to install a downdraft ventilation system in highways to suck car exhaust away at its source.
